Who we are

Church Vision

We are a group of people who are all about Jesus. That’s why as a church we are committed to this vision

As a Church Hawick Baptist is all about:

Making and Maturing Followers of Jesus

                           Through the Gospel of Jesus

                                         To the Glory of Jesus

This vision is what we do, how we do it and importantly why we do it.

What We Do: Making And Maturing Followers of Jesus

There’s two sides to what we do. One, making followers of Jesus which means seeing new people come to trust in Jesus as their saviour and Lord. And two, maturing believers, seeing those who have come to trust him continue to follow him, growing in love for him and becoming increasingly like him in their day to day lives.

So everything we do as a church is about seeing those two things happen.

We a to share the good news of Jesus with new people in Hawick and its surrounds because we think its essential for people to believe in him so that they can be saved from sin and brought to a relationship with God.  (See Acts 4:12)

But we don’t think that’s all we’re asked to do as a church, we think we need to be working together to keep trusting Jesus and keep growing, we call this maturing not because its about becoming old, but about becoming more and more mature as a Christian as God saves us for this purpose. (See Romans 8:29)

How we do it: Through the gospel of Jesus

How do people come to follow Jesus? And how do they keep growing and becoming more mature? The answer to both is the same, it’s the gospel (good news) about Jesus that saves people and continues to change people.

This means are biggest commitment as a church is to Jesus and the good news about his sinless life, his death in the place of sinners and his resurrection to new life (1 Corinthians 15:3-5). We’re committed to spreading that message, to teaching in publicly on Sundays, to sharing it with each other whenever we meet, because it’s the thing that sees new people come to follow Jesus, and saved people become more like Jesus.

We see make new followers when the believe the gospel (Romans 10:9-10) and we continue as followers of Jesus through the gospel (Colossians 2:6-7)

This is why we are so committed to the bible, because it is in the bible that the good news about Jesus is recorded. So we look to teach the gospel from the bible because we believe the whole bible is about Jesus (John 5:39,Luke 24:27) and that if we are to keep hold of the gospel it will be through keeping hold of the bible together (Hebrews 10: 23-25).

Why we do it: The glory of Jesus

We are all about seeing people follow Jesus through this message about Jesus, because we are all about seeing Jesus glorified in people as they come to believe in him and trust in what he’s done, and as they continue following him and growing. So we want to see Jesus glorified through lives being transformed through the gospel. This was God’s plan for Jesus in sending him to save us (Philippians 2:6-11) and we want to see it happen now in our local church in Hawick, as a small taste of the big gathering of all Gods people at the end of the age to worship Jesus (Revelation 9:7-9).

to the people who make up Hawick Baptist Church.

Youth and Childrens ministries

YG+ is a great night for anyone S2-S6, its on every Tuesday during term time and runs from 5:30-8:30.  we start the night with a homecooked meal, then have some big team games like dodgeball, then we have a short bible study where we try and find out more about Jesus, then we have free time when people can use the pool table, foosball table, ping pong table, consoles, play music, sometimes do a craft or other activity. Our young people come from all over Hawick and really love it. Come along and try it for yourself.
